KINGSPORT - Rex A. Stapleton, 72, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at his residence, following a brief illness. Born in Hawkins County on May 17, 1952, a son of the late Charlie and Bessie Stapleton. Rex resided in Kingsport for the last 50 years and worked as a supervisor at General Shale for 34 years. He was employed by Partner Industrial as a caretaker at Eastman Recreation and Camping for 15 years until retirement in August 2024. Rex was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed racing, camping and fishing. Rex will be remembered as a loving husband of 50 years, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Lydia Gentry; sisters, Joyce Ann, Carolann and Gert; brothers, Bobby and Junior.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Stapleton of the home; children, Matonya and Donnie Brown, Amanda and Keith Barger; grandchildren, Summer Salyer (Christopher), Darian Barger (Christopher), Derrick Salyer and Devyn Barger (Morgan); great-grandchildren, Scarlett Gentry and Brixon Gentry; brother, Larry and Margaret; sister, Tina and Georgie; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and special friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys for their love, care and support.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Tim Nelson officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Chuckey, TN with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
Pallbearers will be Devyn Barger, Chris Wallen, Chris Gentry, Richard Quillen, Jeff Ferguson, Mike Quillen, Roger Quillen and Benny Salyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Derrick Salyer and Larry "Jr" Stapleton.
