Beloved Son, Brother, and Friend
ST. LOUIS, MO - Robert Lionel Castille, 38, entered new life on Thursday, Sept. 21 surrounded by loving family and friends.
Bobby was born in Kingsport, TN on Sept. 22, 1984 to Paul and Belinda Castille. He was an athlete, scholar, and musician. In high school he ran cross country and track, and he was serious about ultimate frisbee from the age of ten years on. Friends said no one could lay out like him, "he's like Superman diving after a disc." He was in advanced studies and honors classes throughout elementary and high school. In 2010, Bobby graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in economics. He taught himself how to play piano and guitar from a young age, had a beautiful baritone voice, and served as one of the front men of the local Kingsport band, Name Subject to Change (NSTC). He wrote music, including thought provoking, vulnerable, and often goofy lyrics. Though NSTC eventually disbanded, he continued writing and playing music, often having jam sessions with friends, family, and by himself.
Bobby moved to St. Louis, MO in 2010 where he found a community of friends, his partner, Beth, and his home. He worked at Wells Fargo for 11 years in many different roles, most recently as Senior Escalations Specialist. Bobby loved St. Louis. He made many friends playing ultimate frisbee at Tower Grove Park. He enjoyed good food and beer and made it a point to explore St. Louis' restaurants and breweries. He frequented Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey games. And he loved gathering with friends to watch Tennessee Titans games and Liverpool Football Club matches.
He was known for his sense of humor, for including people, and for giving his all in everything he did. He would do almost anything to make someone smile and laugh. Deeply thoughtful and sensitive, he always wanted everyone to be included in the fun. Bobby taught people his favorite things. He coached ultimate, put a guitar in his baby cousin's hands, and explained the Liverpool roster to anyone who would listen. "Friend" is not a big enough word to describe how he connected with people.
Bobby is survived by his mother and father, Belinda and Paul, his sisters, Lori and Katie, his grandmother, Elizabeth, aunts, uncles, cousins, his partner Beth, and many, many friends. He was an organ donor. Through that choice, he saved the lives of 5 people and improved the lives of dozens of others. Bobby was a giant in both stature and in spirit. Though we'll miss his earthly presence more than words can express, all who knew him will carry his kindness and generosity forward in their own lives.
A memorial service for Bobby will take place in Kingsport, TN at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (800 Broad Street, Kingsport, TN 37660) at 3pm on Saturday, Nov. 11.
