Roger D. Blevins, of Jamestown, born on November 28, 1948 in Coeburn, VA. I was left-handed, therefore, by 1948 standards, defective. My grandparents, Nathan and Wretha Osborne, whom I dearly love, raised me for the first two years. When I was reunited with my parents, it started with a broken collar bone. My father told me routinely that left-handed people were worthless and would never be able to accomplish anything. I was beaten on a regular basis which didn't stop until I was strong enough at 17 years old to put him on the ground. I decided I was going to prove him wrong. I could do everything he did, (and more), better than him. I am an eagle boy scout, welder, mechanic, auto repairman, carpenter, plumber, heavy equipment operator, and journeyman electrician. I was elected five terms as a local 211, UAW Union Representative and two terms as a shop committeeman at General Motors in Defiance, Ohio. I have two college degrees. I am a licensed fixed wing and helicopter pilot, worked for glass machinery in Jonesville, VA and as a highway superintendent for VDOT. I was also a military policeman in the Ohio National Guard. I'm the only person to land a helicopter at the local 211 union hall so I wouldn't miss a shop committee meeting. I've done everything I ever waned to do in life, including marrying a beautiful, intelligent, college educated woman for 52 years, 10 months and 7 wonderful days. Myra Ellen (Cowle) Blevins preceded me in death along with a son, Cory William Blevins. I am survived by my son, Todd Nathan Blevins of Jamestown, TN; a foster son, John Charles Beiswenger of Sacramento, CA; 2 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren and Dora Hammersmith, my daughter since 2015. I believe you can live in America and survive, or America can live in you and you can accomplish anything you want. Success in life depends on your attitude. Trust in God, believe in Jesus, work hard, help your neighbor and enjoy the adventure. Myra and I were cremated and will be buried together at home. A Military Funeral will be held Saturday, Sept 20, 2025 at 2pm at 2510 Tinchtown Rd, Jamestown, TN 38556. Jennings Funeral Homes of Jamestown is in charge of cremation for Roger D.
