A very great piece of my life and heart is missing with the loss of my Uncle Ron. There is slight consolation however in knowing I have a lifetime of pleasant memories of his presence.
He was there to go with us fishing, hunting, riding bicycles, riding motorbikes, shopping for revolvers at the gun shop, midnight adventures frog gigging at snake infested ponds, sleeping over at his house with him making pancakes in the morning for breakfast. It did not take big occurrences to make time with him special. Sitting around and talking about family, friends, old times, future plans and day-to-day events were special just by his presence. We always looked forward to his visits. I am and old man now, but I could call him while driving on my way home from work and just the enthusiastic and happy greeting of his voice on the phone could make all the trivial worries of the day disappear. After a conversation with him, no matter the topic, you knew what was important in life-family bonds and kinsman ship. He was a model for the love and compassion he showed his mother, father and siblings. He loved deeply and he made you feel loved. I fear the day in the future; while driving home, I will get the notion to call him and then realize he is not there to answer. If I can just manage to live my remaining days with a slight percentage of the faith he held in his heart, I know I will once again hear his greeting in the eternity of the future. I love you Uncle Ron.
