Samuel Wayne "Sam" Loflin, Sr., 85, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025. Born on October 15, 1939, in Salisbury, NC.
Sam was the beloved son of Margaret and Jesse Doctor Loflin. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1958 and that same year married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Jean Spencer. Sam continued his education at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, earning a football scholarship and graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics.
A devoted husband and father, Sam worked tirelessly to provide a bright future for his family. His distinguished career at IBM spanned three decades until his retirement in 1992. Never one to stay idle, he then owned and operated Freeman Glass Service from 1994 to 2025.
Sam's passion for UNC football and basketball was matched only by his devotion to family gatherings, where he was famous for his barbecue. He generously volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Boys & Girls Club, Junior Achievement, and the Rotary Club-leaving an indelible mark on his community.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Jean; sons Bill (Lisa) and Tom (Kristy), Grandchildren Preston, Landon (Hilary), Morgan (Alex), Jessica and Luke, 6 wonderful Great Grandchildren and many special Nephews and Nieces. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Son, Sam Jr and Grandson, Charles Hunter.
The family is grateful to Hospice of the Piedmont and Nurse Erin for their compassionate care in Sam's final weeks.
Services will be held Saturday, July 26th 2:00pm at Rowan Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Salisbury North Carolina, followed by a Celebration of Life with Family and Friends at DJ's Restaurant from 3:30pm - 6:00pm.
