CHARLOTTE, NC - – Sarah Elizabeth Gibson-Ortega, 34, entered into her Heavenly rest on December 25th, 2024, after a short-fought battle with lung cancer at Presbyterian Medical in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sarah was born in Church Hill, Tennessee to Keith and Brenda Gibson, but she had made Charlotte her home. She graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 2008 and went on to attend the University of Tennessee where she received a Bachelor of Science in History. She received her Master's of Education from Milligan University. She was currently teaching fourth grade at Mallard Creek STEM Academy. Sarah was a dedicated educator who spent her career investing in every child that walked through her door. Sarah was a faithful member of her home church, Liberty Hill Evangelical Church.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, John A. and Jessie Gibbons and Ben and Nora Dell Gibson.

Sarah is survived by her loving husband, Bryan Cerda Ortega; parents, Keith and Brenda Gibson; mother and father-in-law, Silvia Ortega Loayza and Miguel Soria; father-in-law, Enrique Cerda Morocho; brother, John Keith Gibson (Melissa); sister, Katie Gibson Hagood (Adam); brother-in-law, Oscar Cerda Ortega and Gonzalo Soria. Sarah leaves behind her beloved niece and nephews, Charlotte Gibson, Michael Hagood, and Jesse Hagood whom she loved so dearly. She also leaves behind her pride and joy, and constant companion, Virginia. She leaves behind many precious friends she taught with at school and dear friends from the dog park.

Sarah was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend. She was a passionate educator who had a great love for children and their learning. Her smile could light up any room and she never met a stranger.

Sarah spread so much love in her 34 years to everyone who was fortunate to know her and call her friend. She will be so sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home on Sunday, December 29th from 12:00 to 3:00. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Adam Hagood and Rev. Timothy Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the Marsh Cemetery. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. There will be a celebration of life held in Charlotte at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of her love for children and her courageous fight with cancer.
