Ted Richard "Spud" Harris

October 27, 2024

HENDERSONVILLE, NC - Ted Richard "Spud" Harris, 64, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at Margaret R. Pardee Hospital after a hard battle with pneumonia.

Born in Kingsport, TN, the son of Rev. Richard Harris and the late Shirley Harris. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1977. After graduation, Ted served in the Air Force and returned home to Kingsport after four years. Ted will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and papaw. He was an avid reader and loved a wide range of music but most of all Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. He also loved to watch all kinds of films but he particularly loved westerns, horror films, and sci-fi films the most.

He showed unconditional love to his children, even though there were hardships. In his final

hours, he was able to hear from his girls about the impact he made on their lives. Through them, he left the world a better place than he came into. He left an incredible legacy of strong women and unwavering love for his family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pardee Hospital for the comfort and support that they have provided for the past 6 years and to the caregivers at Orchard Valley Health and Rehabilitation.

In addition to his mom, Shirley, Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Hope "Cindy" Pettigrew, Aunt Linda Lou Harris, grandparents, Horton & Lucy Honeycutt Starnes, and Ted & Lula Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Wilson) Harris; Father, Rev. Richard Harris of Kingsport, TN; children, Haley A. Parent of Hendersonville, and Emily F. Harris of Asheville, NC, and their mother Linda Williams Harris of Hendersonville; sister, Joy Suzanne "Suzie" Hunter (Rev. Jeff) of Knoxville, TN; his precious granddaughter Sullivan V. Parent; three nieces Lindsay Pettigrew Zenelis (George), Dr. Avery Pettigrew Staples (Bobby), Olivia Calloway Larkins (Matt); one great-niece Alexandra Zenelis; and a great-nephew John Zenelis with another great-nephew on the way; and brother-in-law Dr. Andrew Pettigrew of Chantilly, VA.
