KINGSPORT - Walter W. Berkley, 82, of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Walter, aka Papaw, was proud to be born and raised in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He worked as an auto mechanic and farmer. He was a man with a real green thumb. Able to do just about anything, Walter was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting, fishing, and raising beagles. He was especially known to be a wonderful husband and father and devoted, loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one bearing a special nickname that he bestowed on them.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Leona Berkley; brothers, Bud, Billy, Donnie; sisters, Betty, Mary Lou; brother-in-law, Paul "Buddy" Short.
Those left to cherish Walter's memory include his loving wife of sixty years, Jean Berkley; daughter, Tonya Miller (Rob); special grandson, Christian Berkley (Alicia); granddaughters, Madisin Miller (Luke), Makala Cole (Austin); special great-great grandson, Brinley Berkley; great-great granddaughter Charlee Cole; daughter, Denise Whetsel (Chris); grandson, Brian Whetsel (Caroline); granddaughter, Ashley Dobson (Jon); great-grandsons, Grayson and Elijah Whetsel; daughter, Sonya Williams; daughter, Yvette Berkley; grandson, David Berkley; special great-great granddaughter, Taylor Whetsel; step-great-grandchildren, Leora, Quinn, and Neyland; sisters, Blanche, Nancy, Erma; special sister-in-law, Carol Short, special nephew, Chris Short; special friend, Erica Moore; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 263 New Summerville Road, Kingsport, Tennessee.

I worked with Walt , Walter, at Sears Automotive back in the 1990s. I enjoyed working with him and still remember the Ford Fairlane he drove. He will be missed.
