Walter Holland Obituary

Walter Holland

July 29, 1959 -

April 29, 2025

KINGSPORT - Walter Holland, age 65, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Born on July 29, 1959, Walter lived a life marked by service, compassion, and a deep commitment to his community.

Walter was a dedicated medical professional for over 30 years, primarily serving in the fields of neurodiagnostics and polysomnography. His exemplary kindness and compassionate manner were consistently recognized and appreciated by his patients and friends alike. He served with distinction at the University of Tennessee Hospital, St. Mary's, and Children's Hospital in Knoxville, as well as Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Beyond his professional life, Walter was deeply involved in causes close to his heart. He was a passionate participant in the annual Anderson County Toy Run, a charity motorcycle ride dedicated to bringing joy to underprivileged children. For ten years, Walter also served as the president of the Epilepsy Foundation of Knox County, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by epilepsy.

Walter was a proud graduate of East Tennessee State University and a member of the Sig Ep fraternity. He also played a principal role in the family business, Holland Oil Company, Texaco Oil Distributors, and Tri-Cities Equipment Rental Company, which was founded by his predeceased parents, Walter Holland and Eula Wills Holland. He was also a member of The Moose Lodge and The Eagles in both Kingsport and Oak Ridge.

He is survived by many cherished friends and cousins and by his first-grade sweetheart, the love of his life, Melinda Gail, who remained by his side until his peaceful passing into eternal rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing to honor Walter's memory consider a donation to a charity that supports underprivileged children, rescue animals or epilepsy research, causes that were deeply meaningful to him.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm with Brother Ed McLain officiating.

This news comes as quite a shock...sad to hear.
Walter was a friend since high school. (I had graduated a few years earlier). Introduced to Walter through mutual friends. He was one of the nicest, most pleasant persons I knew. Our careers took us in different directions and I hadn't seen him in years.
Glad to hear that he was able to dedicate his life to the causes he loved most.
I will miss you, Walter.
See you on the 'other side', brother.
Condolences to the family and friends.
Most Sincerely,
Alex Potts
