TUSCALOOSA, AL - Walter (Walt) A. Robbins, Jr., age 76, of Tuscaloosa, AL, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at DCH Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with a private family burial to follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 P.M.
Walt was born on October 22, 1947, in Kingsport, TN to the late Walter A. and Lillian (Price) Robbins.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Connie (Harris) Robbins; his daughter, Kristen Culhane (Tom) and his son, Jason Robbins (Kinsey); two wonderful grandsons, Nate and Ian; and his special sister, Anita Smith (Allen) of Kingsport, TN.
Walt loved spending time with his family at home, at the beach, and in various activities and travels. He treasured his many friends from First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and sincerely loved serving. He shared many great times with friends in his special interests such as kayaking, camping, 4-wheeling, and playing guitar.
Walt was one of those lucky ones who knew very early that he was called to a career in accounting. He attended Steed College in Johnson City, TN (undergraduate degree), Virginia Tech and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (graduate degree) in pursuit of that career. He taught accounting at Bluefield University and Radford College in Virginia prior to coming to the University of Alabama in 1982, where he taught for 37 years. While at UA, he earned a number of awards, but his greatest pride was his positive impact on students.
Memorial contributions may be given to Bancroft Bible Camp in Kingsport, TN.
