William "Red" Palmer April 28, 1953 - July 30, 2024
KINGSPORT - William Farley Palmer, the son of Flo and F.L. Palmer, passed peacefully through heaven's Gate on July 30, 2024.
Born April 28, 1953, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, he graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1971. William attended ETSU and UT.
He was an avid Volunteer fan, and also enjoyed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace.
William loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a member of Litz Manor Baptist Church.
He was an accomplished carpenter, specializing in finish work. He worked throughout the Tri-City and Northern Virginia areas for many prominent contractors, Jeff Vaughn being the most recent.
William had a group of special friends who began comping together "On the Farm" in Scott County, VA when they were teenagers. For fifty plus years the group has continued to go camping together. William always cared very deeply for his friends.
Family members who have passed away before are his parents, Flo and F.L. Palmer, brother, Jack Palmer, grandparents, Farley and Mariah Palmer and Andy and Rosie Utsman, niece, Jennifer Duncan and special friend, Sheree Overbey, cousins, David Palmer, Susan Alsawalhe', Genevieve and Howard Snapp, Doris Baird, Tom Utsman, Jo Derrick, Rose Derrick, Henry Derrick, and Mary Virginia Thompson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Theresa Cape-Duncan, brother-in-law, Larry Duncan, nephew, Matthew Cape, great nephews, Wyatt and Emmett Cape, aunt, Mary Palmer Veilleux, cousins, Melissa Johnson, Mary Jo King, Donna Long, Lisa Taylor, Joyce Purinton, Faye Collins, Andy Crawley, Bob Utsman, Andy Utsman, Tinah Utsman, Sanya Tingle, Jan Mosadegh, and Evelyn Sunich, along with his special loved ones, Missy Crawford, Mikey, Alexis, and Zackary, and his caregivers, Brigett Arwood and Heather Thompson, and William's very special friends Pete Range and Mike Sutton.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Pastor Samuel Newland of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. The Cedar Grove Choir will provide the music.
