Frances Delores Summers, 97, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at 4:10 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Redbanks Nursing Home.
Frances was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on October 12, 1928, to the late Martin and Chloe Coomes Summers. She was a 1946 graduate of Holy Name High School and worked for 40 years for the Kentucky State Employment Office. Frances was a lifelong Hendersonian and a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society, choir, and liturgy committee and as a greeter for funeral services. She also contributed articles to Holy Name’s Voices of the Parish newsletter and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society financial aid office.
For over 20 years, Frances was a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus. She was a U.S. Census taker, volunteered tutoring grade school students, enjoyed playing Bridge, and belonged to the D.A.R.
Aunt Delores helped raise generations of children in her family with patience, care, and trips to hunt for “cheapie toys.” She loved Jane Austen novels, music, and shopping for a good bargain with her sister, Dot. Delores was a natural teacher – from reading to piano, she taught not only her own nieces and nephews, but countless other children to love books and music too. She was a fierce UK basketball fan and defended “our boys” against every foul called on the court. Her laugh was infectious and she brightened every room she ever stepped into. She was truly the best of us.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Ann “Dot” Summers; and two brothers, James “Jack” Summers and Thomas “Kitty” Summers.
Survivors include three nephews; six nieces; nine great-nephews; five great-nieces; fifteen great-great-nephews; five great-great-nieces; and one great-great-great-nephew.
Services will be at noon Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Father Shibu Cheriyankunnel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.
Contributions may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.
Special thanks to Redbanks Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave Frances during her time there.
