GATE CITY, VA – Alvin, 65 was at home being comforted by his family when he entered into his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Alvin was born October 24, 1957 to Emmitt and Lovely Bowen who preceded him in death.
Those left behind to cherish their memories of him are his daughter, Christina Jean Bowen, Kingsport, TN; son, Jared Dustin Russell Bowen (Annie), Richmond, VA; grandson, Christian Carr and granddaughter, Casianna Sims, Kingsport, TN; sisters, Zennia Kinkead and Tammy Bowen, Gate City, VA; niece, Rebecca Herron; nephews, Presley Tipton and Jamie Tipton; great nieces, Madison Tipton and Emilee Herron; great nephews, Lucas Herron and Hudson Tipton; and a family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Bowen Shepard Cemetery Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 12 PM. Those wishing to be in the procession are asked to be at Colonial Funeral Home at 11:20. Those wishing to await the procession's arrival at the cemetery are free to do so.
Pallbearers will be Nephews and 1st Cousins.
Garry Hood will be led by God to do what is needed for comfort on that day. Two songs of Alvin's choice will be played and everyone knows his enormous love of music.
After the service, the family will go to Rebecca's home where family and friends are invited and welcomed to gather and visit.

so sorry for the loss, was a friend throught our years at rye cove and bumped into each other several times over the years and enjoyed talking with each other. thought i might see him several times in the last couple of years but he was probably too sick, will cross my mind occasionally as long as I live. Really really sorry for your loss.
