KINGSPORT - Barbara Ellen Hammonds Kilgore, born March 6, 1959, of Kingsport, peacefully entered into her Heavenly Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, October 26, 2023.
Barbara loved being with her family and a multitude of friends throughout her life, whether gathering in her home, enjoying a family getaway, or traveling through God's great creation by car or joining her husband, David, on their motorcycle, and she continued celebrating that joy to her passing. She was formerly employed by Kingsport City Schools in the department of Food Services until the opportunity arrived for her to accept the job she truly loved – fulltime Grandmother, chauffeur, and all-round support person for most of the social, sports, and personal activities of her entire family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James C. and Velma H. Hammonds.
Left to honor her memory is her husband of 45 years, David Ray Kilgore; daughters, Mary Ellen Jessee (Melissa Showman), Davina LeAnne Kilgore; son, Daniel Ray Kilgore (Megan), all of Kingsport; sisters, Nancy Bland, Leona McCracken (James), Shirley Yates (Bob); granddaughters, Daisy Jessee, Isabella Crawford, Carson Kilgore, Chandler Kilgore; grandsons, Ben Jessee, Gabriel Crawford; a host of loving nieces and nephews and many, many, wonderful friends.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bob Yates officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
Barbara's family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, medical staff, nurses and her caregivers for their care and compassion along with the Cancer Center for their loving care and kindness.
