Barbara M. Lane July 22, 2024
KINGSPORT - Barbara M. Lane, a beloved member of the Kingsport, TN community passed away after a brief illness July 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. Family and friends were incredibly important to Barbara, and she maintained strong ties with them throughout her life. She was a genealogy enthusiast, always eager to learn more about her family's history (and yours) and share her findings with loved ones. A 70+ year active member of Gravely Baptist Church, Barbara's faith was a cornerstone of her life.
She was married to J. Fred Lane for 50 years and served as the "Director of Operations" for Fred Lane, General Contractor, as well as President, Secretary, Treasurer, Caregiver, and Chief Storyteller of the Lane family. She capably filled all these roles but was especially extraordinary as the Head Chef.
In addition to her culinary talents, Barbara was a skilled seamstress and worked in the dress department at JCPenney and served the community more as the Program Coordinator for the Kingsport Diabetes Association.
Barbara showed that love is a verb. She showed love through her selfless actions, such as always being the first to provide comfort to a friend in need, whether through a warm meal or simply sitting with them during difficult times.
Barbara's humor, laughter, caring, (and biscuits) will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of humble generosity that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Surviving family members include David Lane (Donna), Karen Garland, Todd Lane, Tamara Barnes, Tanya Wagner (Randy). She was known as "Mo" to her beloved grandchildren, Amy Lane (Bill Hernandez), April Tegeler (Brett), Danny Campbell, Zachary Garland, Amara Barnes, Ryan Wagner (Madison), Ken Lane, Caleb Barnes, Russell Wagner, and Jordan Lane and five great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, James and Eva Miller, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband J. Fred Lane; brother Claude O. Miller; sisters Brooksie Meade (Don), Belle Gentry (Lewis) and Lokiel Arden (Glenn).
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm with Pastor Terry Bennett and Rev. Mark A. Bolden officiating.
The Graveside Service will follow at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA with Mrs. Lane's grandsons serving at pallbearers.
