Betty J. Byington

February 27, 2025

ROGERSVILLE - Betty J. Byington, age 81, of Rogersville, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 27, 2025 after a long period of declining health. Born to Wiley and Mary Osborne, she lived all of her life in the Surgoinsville area. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Inez and Lois: and brother, Frank.

Betty was creative and talented. She was an expert cook and seamstress who taught herself to paint. Many babies were gifted with bunny quilts over the years. Betty loved her family and friends and was a faithful member of Lone Oak Missionary Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years Jimmy "Murrell" Byington; son, Jimmy Byington and wife, Monica; and daughter, Karen Sherriff and husband, Mike; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and several nephews; and beloved cat, Milo.

The family would like to thank the staff of Smokey Mountain Hospice, aides Katie and Whitney, and the staff of Signature Healthcare for all the love and care provided.

Visitation hours will be 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 4, 2025 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mark Helton and Rev. Johnny Seymore officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to the Alzheimers Tennessee Northeast Chapter, 2319 Browns Mill Rd., Suite D6, Johnson City, TN 37604 or Hawkins County Humane Society, 5180 Hwy 11W, Rogersville, TN 37857
