KINGSPORT - Betty Joan Rutledge, 84, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.

A lifelong resident of the area, Betty was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was a nurturing mother-not only to her own children, but to many in the neighborhood who found comfort and guidance in her presence.

Betty had a deep love for reading, crocheting, painting, and spending time with her family. A talented and passionate cook, she filled her home with warmth, laughter, and the aroma of homecooked meals. She found joy in life's simple pleasures and lived each day with grace and compassion.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Clyde Rutledge; her son, Donald William Rutledge; her parents, Kemp and Mae Elam; and her brothers, Don Elam and Dewey Elam (Louise).

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debra Rutledge, Ronda Rutledge, and Tony Rutledge (Carolyn); grandchildren, Melissa Hall (Dennis), Steffanie Rutledge, and Jozie Rutledge (Chris); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Waldo (Jordan) and Robbie Hall (Christina); great-great-grandson, Kaysen Waldo; sister, Shelby English; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services at this time.
