KINGSPORT - Bill McClure Gothard, 93, of Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Sale Creek, TN he spent most of his life in Sullivan County and was a graduate of Holston High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean war and retired from Eastman Kodak. After retirement, he worked at the Appalachian Fair for many years. He also enjoyed working on cars in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruby Gothard; his first wife, Shirley Bullis Gothard; his second wife, Betty Nester Gothard; and sisters, Jimmie Ruth Land and Minerva Sexton.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Denise Gibbons and husband, Jerry; son, Dan Gothard; stepsons, Jeff Nester and wife, Penny, and Mark Nester and wife, Cathy; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Lynn Howard; brother, Buddy Gothard and wife, Ramona; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Beulah Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Al South and John David Shanks officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Community Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Posts 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 491 Beulah Church Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
