Billy Joe Whitmore September 8, 2024
MT. CARMEL - Billy Joe Whitmore, 86, of Mt. Carmel, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at his home. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bill was born and raised in Scott County, VA and attended Gate City High School, where he was class president and captain of the football team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Bill was a simple man that loved woodworking and could make anything. He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances Whitmore; parents, James and Roberta Whitmore; nine siblings; and grandson, Kade Jennings.
Survivors include his son, Brent Whitmore and wife Aimee; daughter, Jalana Jennings and husband, Todd; grandchildren, Kinsley (Wihan), Piper; step-grandchildren, Jordyn (Brandon), Logan, Madison (Zeke) and Bryson; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Byerley and husband, Jerry, and Noonie Bennett; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Liberty Hill Cemetery with Brent Whitmore and Scott Byerley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bryson Lee, Drew Byerley, Todd Jennings, Mike Wilson, Zeke Larkins and Brandon Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Wihan Botha and Jerry Byerley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 311 Cypress St., Mt. Carmel, TN 37645.

Hate to have missed the service of such a good man. Was like a Dad to me and so enjoyed working with him. He meant the World to me and we know that he and Frankie are together with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Very sorry to hear of Bill's leaving this earth. Played football with him and "hung out" at the Campus often. He was a big fan of Johnny Cash particularly "I Walk the Line". His laugh, which he did a lot, was so unique and is still in my mind. It was always good times with Bill. Thankful to have known him.

Patsy and Noonie, Jerry and I just heard about Bill´s and Frances´ passing. We are so sorry to hear of these 2 wonderful Christians leaving this earth. They were special people and truly meant a great deal
