BLOOMINGDALE - Carlene Larkins Hensley of Bloomingdale passed away on May 9, 2025, at Holston Valley Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was firstborn to the late Robert and Anna Martha Larkins on November 18, 1937, in Church Hill, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School Class of 1955 and a member of Vermont United Methodist Church. She retired from Sullivan North High School after many years of service working in the cafeteria.
Carlene married the late Wilbur Ray Hensley on August 27, 1960. They were married for 55 wonderful years. They poured their lives and love into their family of 5 Children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of which brought great joy to her life. She loved reading, especially the Bible.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Carlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Patton and James Larkins; and her sisters, Patsy Larkins and Elizabeth Hicks.
Survivors include son, David Hensley (Phyllis); daughters, Martha Tisdale (Jim), Linda Hicks, Brenda Calton (Chris) and Vicki Quillen (Richard); grandchildren, Chris Tisdale, Jennifer Williams (Chris), Travis Hensley (Tosha), Michael Tisdale, Adam Hensley, Jared Calton (Trinity), Sarah Harwood (Joshua), Amy Mathews (Dwayne), Josh Hensley, Alexis Quillen and L'Cee Wallace-Tisdale; great- grandchildren, Riley, Bentley, Alaina, Raylee, Trinity, Bailey, Ava, Harper, Jackson, Berkley and Maelynn; brother, Ronnie Larkins (Carolyn); sister, Judy Thacker; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Larkins; and special cousin, Barbara Ann Meade.
Carlene lived with Lupus for about 50 years causing her numerous health issues. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Franzus and staff for the many years of loving care provided to her. In addition, the family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to her home health nurse, Shirley Hunley, who went above and beyond caring for her.
Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Chris, Travis, Mike, Adam, Jared and Josh. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Williams, Joshua Harwood and Dwayne Mathews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lupus Foundation of America.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm, with the funeral service to follow in the chapel at Oak Hill Funeral Home.
A Graveside Service will be on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:30 am, Oak Hill Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation.
