KINGSPORT - Cathy Sue Gibson, 67, Kingsport, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Cathy was born on March 22, 1958, in Kingsport, TN, and was the daughter of the late Stewart Griffin and Edith (Clifton) Griffin.

Cathy retired from Sullivan County Schools and Quebecor (Kingsport Press).

In addition to her parents, her husband Jimmy Ray Gibson; son/great-grandson, Ashton Reid Forrester; sisters, Wilma Jones, Brenda Berry, Janice Qualls, Judy Griffin; and brothers, Johnny Griffin and Billy Joe Griffin preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Stacey and son-in-law, Justin Riggs, of Kingsport, TN; bonus children, Carla (Kenny) Kime, Wabash, IN, Jimmy Doyle Gibson, Wabash, IN; grandchildren, David Forrester, Ashley (Patrick Hyatt) Forrester, Bailey Riggs, Kelsey (Dylan) Barrett, Britany (April) Cox, Josh Kime, Cody Gibson, Cameron Gibson, Jadyn Gibson, and Jaci Gibson; great grandchildren, Kyndall Hyatt, Stella Hyatt, Paislee Forrester, Samuel Barrett, Landon Forrester, Cheyenne Kime, Caydence Kime, Harper Kime, and Lilianna Kime; sister, Shirley McDavid, Gate City, VA; brothers, Jerry (Myrtle) Griffin, Kingsport, TN, Herman (Mary) Griffin, Kingsport, TN; sisters-in-law, Diane Griffin, Kingsport, TN, Almeda (Hagan) Lawson, Gate City, VA, Mary Stephens, Wabash, IN, Patsy (L.C.) Beavers,, Honeybrook, PA, Doris McConnell, Gate City, VA; special niece, Debbie Weems, Baileyton, TN; inherited daughters, Tina Amos and Melisha Christian, FNP who gave her exceptional care as her family physician; and longtime friends, Louise Taylor, Sheila Meade, Kim Robinette, Sandy Howe; and all her fur babies, Cleo, Molly, Ruger, Pearl, and Luna; along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Service will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Owens officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Clendenin Cemetery, in the Purchase Ridge Community of Duffield, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:15a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.

Justin Riggs, Dylan Barrett, David Forrester, Landon Forrester, Patrick Hyatt, Samuel Barrett. Jimmy Doyle Gibson, Jerry Griffin, Josh Kime, Beau Riggs, Kenny Kime, and Hagan Lawson will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
