GATE CITY, VA - Charles Edgar Darnell, 92 of the Yuma community passed away, November 9, 2025, at 7:00pm surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Scott County, VA on August 2, 1933, where he lived most of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army European Tour, Oklahoma and Germany, he retired from the Kingsport Press after 39 years of service and faithfully attended Vicars Chapel Church as long as his health allowed.

In addition to his parents, Trigg and Dora Darnell, his loving wife of 59 years, Jean Dockery Darnell; his sisters, Venus Garland, Margaret (Madge) Lampkin, Myrtle Dula; brothers, Cossie, Lemuel, Carl, Eritt, Guy and Paul Darnell preceded him in death.

Charles is survived by his three sons, Charles Darnell, Jr. and wife, Sandra, David Darnell and wife, Patty, and Roger Darnell, all of the Yuma community; five grandchildren, Gary Darnell and wife, Heather, Waterford, PA, Justin Darnell, Gate City, VA, Laura Furcron and husband, Thomas, Roanoke, VA, Joel Darnell and wife, Mandy, Rogersville, TN, Misty Sexton and husband, Eugene, Gate City, VA; twelve great grandchildren, Seth and Caleb Darnell, Lucy, Tessa, Willa, and Norah Furcron, Allison and Matthew Evans, Renee, Ayden, Mollie and Allie Sexton; one special sister, Viola Kinkead, Ft. Blackmore, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with his grandson, the Rev. Gary Darnell and the Rev. Gary Adkins officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Justin Darnell, Joel Darnell, Eugene Sexton, Thomas Furcron, Seth Darnell, Caleb Darnell, Ayden Sexton and Matthew Evans will serve as pallbearers. Verbie Morgan, Dale Bellamy, Jim Pierson, Jack Sanders and Rudy Gibson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Elite Hospice who cared for Dad for several months during the course of his illness. We would like to especially thank Sarah Bush, his nurse, and Charity Shaffer, his CNA who took care of him.

We would also like to especially thank Particia Bloomer, his personal caregiver, who looked after him and made sure he got fed and took his medications. Dad really enjoyed her help and companionship.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service.
