Charles Reed Obituary

December 27, 2024
Charles H. Reed passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 at home surrounded by family after a brave battle with cancer. Charles was born and grew up in Kingsport, TN. He graduated from Ketron High School in 1969 and then joined the Navy during Vietnam. He attended ETSU and received his Master of Arts in Theater from University of Oregon. His lifelong career in the arts included directing, acting, writing and teaching across the country-the Detroit Center for the Performing Arts, Greenville Playhouse, Youngstown Playhouse, ETSU, Jonesborough Repertory Theater, Blue Moon Theater and more, along with numerous tv and film roles in Los Angeles with notables like Gene Simmons, Danny Trejo, Amy Winehouse and many others. He loved exploring nature and was an avid hiker and bicyclist.
He was preceded in death by mother Geraldine Gracie Wade and father Mescal Leon Reed and is survived by former wife and best friend Linda Depew, daughter Leslie Reed and wife Christina; brother Larry Reed and wife Sue; brother Calvin Reed and wife Philomena; niece Erica Ruth Reed and great-nephew Christopher; Kim Reed Goward and husband Eric; children Madelyn, Cameron and Hayden; nephew Jerry Reed, wife Sandy and great nephews Phineas and Apollo; and special cousin Bethel Bledsoe.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2025, at Farmstead Museum, Bays Mountain Park, from 11 AM -1 PM.
Memorials may be made to National Park Foundation.
