KINGSPORT - Charles Emmett Worrell, 88, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 18, 2025.

Mr. Worrell was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to George Emmett Worrell and Tinnie Strickland Worrell.

Mr. Worrell attended East Carolina University and graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Textile Engineering. While in college, Mr. Worrell even participated in the historical reenactment of the Lost Colony.

Mr. Worrell served in the Army as a Military Police and was proud of his service.

Mr. Worrell began his career with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport and retired from Eastman. Though he retired, he was not ready to stop working, and worked many years at HDK Industries and Fiber Innovation Technology.

Mr. Worrell was an active member at First Baptist Church in his hometown where he taught children's Sunday School, served as a Deacon, and was involved in countless church activities. He was a forever NCSU fan, enjoyed the Atlanta Braves and was always up for a trip to the Outer Banks, where he had spent time just before he passed. Though he lived in Kingsport, Eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks were the places he truly considered home.

Mr. Worrell was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy Grider, all of Goldsboro, N.C.

He is survived by his loving wife and true best friend of 58 years, Barbara Cooper Worrell; his daughter, Leigh Worrell Sboukis, sons Matthew Emmett Worrell (Amy) and Andrew Braxton Worrell (Neysa), and grandsons Andrew Sboukis and Robert Forester.

Mr. Worrell's number one priority was taking care of his family. He was always available for talks, to grab lunch, or for a friendly visit.
