FT. BLACKMORE, VA - David Wayne "Dave" Starnes, 76, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 8, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born in Kingsport, TN, on July 31, 1949, a son of the late Oscar F. Starnes and Laura Ina (Taylor) Starnes. He attended Clinchport Freewill Baptist Church. Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a certified contractor, carpenter and enjoyed farming. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Echol Starnes and J. Dan Starnes, and his cousin and special friend, Zane Starnes.

Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Bernice (Carter) Starnes; daughter, Megan Hughes, and husband Wes; grandchildren, Bryson, Landon, and Harper; sister, Eula Qualls, and husband Ronnie; sister-in-law, Twyla Starnes; several nieces and nephews; very special great-nephew, Clay Carter; and special buddy Chuck Starnes.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Clinchport Freewill Baptist Church, 3991 Clinch River Hwy, Gate City, VA. Services will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Geroge Gibson and Brother Bill Tignor officiating. Michael Gibson will be giving the eulogy. Music will be provided by the Durham Chapel Quartet and Patrica Edwards.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 12, 2025 at Carter Cemetery, Slant Community of Ft. Blackmore, VA. with Brother Robbie Dockery officiating. The family will be meeting at 10:00 am at the church to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Holt Carter, Clay Carter, Jack Bowen, Kyle Qualls, John Hall, Cody Cole, Tyler Gardner, and Christian Starnes. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, in support of his grandson Landon Hughes, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting their website www.stjude.org.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Brooke McNew-Hall and Ashley Hill (Caris Hospice) for their loving care of Dave.
