In Loving Memory of Deborah "Debby" Jane Dykes Deakins, November 14, 1951 - August 19, 2025. Debby, 73, of Gray, Tennessee, entered her eternal rest on August 19, 2025. Born on November 14, 1951, in Johnson City, she was the cherished daughter of the late Elmer and Wanda Dykes.
Debby is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Phil; their three daughters: Amy Deakins, Susan Tate, Mindy Utsman, and special son-in-law, Jason Utsman. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Dean Deakins, Jackson Utsman, Bailey Utsman, and Rand Tate. Debby is also survived by brothers: James Dykes and Ronald Dykes (Janette); her brothers-in-law: Kermit Deakins (Janice) and Jerry Deakins (Ann); as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were like family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Gayle Utsman, a dear family friend, for unwavering love, care, and support throughout Debby's illness and final days. Special thanks are also given to Debby's niece, Jennifer Gray, for her guidance and compassion during her final moments. The family is deeply appreciative to Dr. Jamal Maatouk, the nurses, and staff at Tennessee Oncology, Ballad Cancer Center, and Indian Path TCC Unit for all their exceptional care and kindness.
Debby's life was a beautiful reflection of strength, grace, and standfast faith. A devoted member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, she lived her life with a heart full of love for others and a deep commitment to her faith.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, located at 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, Tennessee 37615. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

I had the privilege of working with Susan Tate for seven years, during which she often spoke with deep love and admiration for her mother Debby. I was lucky to meet her during a memorable dinner in Atlanta-an evening filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful conversation. It was clear how special their bond was. My heartfelt condolences to the family. Her presence and spirit will be dearly missed.
