Deborah Hicks Obituary

Deborah Jean Hicks

September 26, 1957 -

February 17, 2025

Deborah Jean Hicks, 67, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful wife went to be with the Lord on February 17th, 2025. She was known to all for her fierce love and nurturing spirit. The love she showed her family was only surpassed by her love and commitment to her Savior. Whether in her role as Mom, Nana, Ms. Deborah, or Deb, she exemplified a Godly woman as best expressed in Proverbs 31.

28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

29 Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.

30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

She was born in Batesville, Arkansas, on September 26th, 1957. She wed William C. Hicks on April 10th, 1976. Together they welcomed Elaine, their daughter, in 1978 and Josh, their son, in 1982. For herself, she held the highest calling, being a full-time homemaker and stay-at-home mom fulfilling enumerable roles as nurse, teacher, counselor, cook, Nana, and friend.

Nana loved spending time with her grandchildren Alex, Will, Aerin, Ethan, and Anneliese. Ms. Deborah cared deeply for Dillon and Jackson as well. She was the family photographer. She enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, and, like her mother, loved butterflies. She loved walking her pug dogs.

Her legacy remains alive in all those she loved. Her faith was evident in all aspects of her life. To know her was to know a Spirit-filled Christ follower.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lola Jean and George Weldon Milligan. She is survived by her husband, William C. Hicks, her two children, Elaine and Josh and their spouses Jonathan and Jessica, her brother Rick with his wife Cathy, and their three daughters Lora, Lindsay, Leslie and their families, her grandchildren Alex, Will, Aerin, Ethan, and Anneliese.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with her husband William "Bill" Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Through mom's fight with cancer, she kept repeating Ephesians 6:13-14a

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore…

Stand she did, with a quiet strength that taught us, even with her final breaths.
