Foy McIntosh Obituary

Foy Lee McIntosh

March 13, 1941 -

November 21, 2025

KINGSPORT - Foy Lee McIntosh went to be with the Lord on Friday November 21, 2025. He was born on a cold day (March 13, 1941) to Axie and Richard McIntosh in Erwin, TN, and was their 6th child.

His childhood was spent in Flag Pond, TN, always working in the garden, grazing the cow along the roadsides, or exploring the nearby wooded mountains. He graduated from Unicoi County High School in 1959, then attended ETSU where he received his B.S. degree in Industrial Education. He taught shop class for two years in Manassas, VA, before returning to the region to work at Tennessee Eastman Company in 1966. He went on to earn his Master's degree at ETSU in Industrial Education in 1973. He was a member of Epsilon Pi Tau, an honorary fraternity, and the American Society for Training Development. He was instrumental in establishing the apprenticeship program at Eastman, and is remembered for helping advance the careers of many employees. He retired in 1996, and immediately dedicated himself to various Mission projects at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, traveling the world to Estonia, Belize, Alaska, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Red Bird, KY, and John's Island, SC.

His passion was work and he was happiest when his hands were busy; tending his garden, raising cows, clearing land, making hay, milling lumber, building barns and a cabin, handcrafting wood objects. The land he purchased in Scott County, VA, in 1981, would become his lifeblood; he named it Tír nan Óg, Celtic for "land of heart's desire" and it will be his final resting place.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Howard, Garland and Kenneth McIntosh; his nephew Michael Rice and niece Maria Rice; former wife Harriett Collins and child. Foy is survived by his wife, Nancy McIntosh, and sons Patrick McIntosh and wife Connie, Aaron McIntosh, and Drew McIntosh and wife Alix Pfennigwerth; three grandchildren, Kurt, Brooke and Grace McIntosh; his sisters Pauline Rice and Martha Ricker, and brother A.D. McIntosh; his nephews Marvin and Alan Rice, and nieces Sarah Puglisi and Allison Pulcini; his sisters-in-law Pat Crawford and Carolyn Fleming, brothers-in-law Bud, John and James Crawford. Also surviving are other nieces, nephews, and many special friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Baysmont House and caregiver Emily for their care and patience in Foy's final months.

The memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E Church Circle, Kingsport, TN. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Home Repair Ministry of First Broad Street UMC ([email protected]).
