HILTONS, VA - Genevieve McMurray, age 86, of Hiltons, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hiltons on June 6, 1939, Genevieve was a lifelong resident of the community, known for her kindness, dedication to her family, and deep roots in the local area.

She was preceded in death by her husband Homer "Caleb" McMurray; parents, Sylvester and Ruth McMurray; her son, David McMurray; her daughter, Brenda McMurray; her son-in-law Raymond Blalock and her brothers, Gail, Garvey, Woodrow, Dewey, Hagan, and Perry McMurray, and her sister, Gaye Williams.

Genevieve is survived by her devoted daughter, Remona Kay "Betsy" Blalock of Hiltons, VA; her daughter-in-law, Kim Laney McMurray of Fall Branch, TN; and her cherished sisters, Faye (Robert) Sturgill of Hiltons, VA, Patsy (Darrell) Laughlin of Kingsport, TN, Peggy (Ralph) Hughes of Blountville, TN, and Hazel Wilson of Bristol, VA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Dustin (Holly) Carter of Nickelsville, VA, Justin (Jessica) McMurray of Kingsport, TN, Caleb Starnes of Hiltons, VA, Daniel (Emily) McMurray of Fall Branch, TN, Keith (Shea) McMurray of Fall Branch, TN, and Abigail Starnes of Knoxville, TN. Additionally, Genevieve was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Rayanne Carter, Adalynn Starnes, Willa and Emery McMurray and Anna McMurray along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Genevieve was a lifelong member of the New Hurland Baptist Church and later attended Glenwood Community Church. Genevieve enjoyed singing and attending church services. She was known for her unwavering faith and strong sense of community.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel, with Preacher Ronnie Horne, Rev. Gorman McMurray, and Rev. Rex McMurray officiating. Music will be provided by the McMurray Brothers, Darlene Inscoe and Randy Finch.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Hiltons, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral at 10:15 to go in procession to the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Carter, Justin McMurray, Caleb Starnes, Daniel McMurray, and Keith McMurray.

Genevieve will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Glenwood Community Church in her memory.
