DANVILLE, VA - George Carter Hunt, age 83, of Danville, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina.

A native of East Tennessee, George was a proud graduate of East Tennessee State University and earned a Master's in Education from Virginia Tech. He dedicated over 43 years to education, teaching in Delaware, New Jersey, and Virginia, where he retired as Industrial Arts Department Chair at George Washington High School, Danville.

After retirement, George pursued a new venture in real estate development. Alongside his beloved wife and life partner, Jo Ann, he co-founded a development partnership that established the thriving neighborhood of Hunts Crossing in Kingsport. He was also a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Danville.

George is survived by his two sons, Andy (and wife Nancy) of Goode, VA, and Daniel (and wife Carol) of Carlsbad, CA, as well as four grandchildren: Nat, Rachel, Dare, and Tesla.

The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home on Saturday Oct 19, 2024 from 12:30pm – 2:00pm. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport at 3pm.
