George Toncray Obituary

George Williams Toncray III

September 1, 1939 -

April 28, 2025

KINGSPORT - With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of George Williams Toncray III, age 85, of Kingsport, TN, on April 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. George was born in Johnson City, TN, on the First day of September 1939. He was a loving husband and father, a dedicated employee at Eastman Chemical Company for almost three decades and served with pride in the United States Navy retiring with the rank of Captain. George enjoyed travelling, being outdoors and had an active lifestyle. He was a Boy Scout, then a Troup leader, and was awarded the Order of the Arrow for outstanding service to the community. For decades he enjoyed playing basketball, tennis and golf. George was known for his sense of humor, his lifelong 'Tiger Pride' as a second-generation graduate from Clemson University, his charity as member of the Kingsport Jaycees and Civitan Singles Club as member and President of both, and as a volunteer with The CXS Santa Train. He cherished travelling to visit his family, his lifelong friendships, and vacationing at Boothbay Harbor with his wife. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

George is survived by his wife, Louisa Looney Toncray; his daughters, Michelle, Renee, and Christy; his stepdaughters, Deborah and Allison; his grandchildren, Hayley and Phillip; his nephews, Jake and Josh; and brother-in-law, Jim.

He was predeceased by his father, George Williams Toncray Jr.; his mother, Edna Burleson Toncray; and his sister, Rachel Toncray Tiller.

George will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Oak Hill Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 am, followed by a service and reception at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport at 1:00 pm.
