KINGSPORT - Gerlene Darter, 88, of Kingsport, passed away April 9, 2025.
Gerlene was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. She was compassionate, caring, and loved God and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ernest and Pearlie Wallen; her husband of sixty-six years, Robert Darter; brothers, Rufus, and Roy Wallen; granddaughter, Andrea Jill Jackson; and one great-granddaughter, Lyric Skye Barnette.
Those left to cherish Gerlene's memory are her daughters, Debbie Jackson, and Rhonda Barnette; son, Jeff Darter; grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Holly Jackson, Daniel Barnette (Maggie), and David Barnette (Ali); great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jace, J.J., Jeremiah, Tate, and Bella; brothers, Jack Wallen (Paulette), and Bill Wallen (Sue); several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Elizabeth Looney and Jean Salyer.
The Darter family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will follow at 4:00 pm with Larry Morelock officiating.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, April 14, 2025, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 10:50am. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The Darter family is a second family to me. I have known the Darters since 1975 as a child. The entire family brings back such special childhood memories. Jerri is a child of God and was a wonderful Mother that raised three amazing children; Debbie, Rhonda, and Jeff. I will alway s remember playing in the yard with Rhonda. Jerri would call us inside for snacks and drinks. Jerri and her husband, Bob, were such a God Loving couple too. They were together for 66 years and you could see the Love between them. I feel so blessed to have known Jerri Darter since childhood. She was such a blessing to so many people. Jerri and Bob are together again in Heaven and there is great peace in knowing that. Sending lots of Love to Debbie, Rhonda, Jeff, and the entire family.
