Gladys Maxwell Obituary

APPALACHIA, VA - Gladys Marie Shelton Maxwell, 97, of Appalachia went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Wise. She was born in Scott County and after marrying she lived most of her life in Appalachia which she called her home. She was a faithful member of the Appalachia United Methodist Church and participated in the Women's Day Circle. Till the end she adored her church family and friends.

Before marrying, she worked at Eastman for twelve years, but her true occupation in life was as a wife and mother. Her greatest joy in life was cooking for her family. She loved gardening, flowers, and took pride in keeping her house spotless.

She was preceded in death by parents, Brandon and Sarah Jane Shelton and the love of her life, her husband, Lewis L. Maxwell.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Noel) Collins of Marion, VA, Kathy (Tim) Osborne of Wise, VA; granddaughters, Jessica (Jason) Creasy, Brittney Criswell, Meisha (Zach) Addington, Rebekah Sage; great grandchildren who she cherished, Zoe, Jaylea, Ethan, Holden, Colt, Annika, Kholeesi, Anden, Mila; she is also survived by several wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home with services following in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. David Rose. Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia is serving the Maxwell family.
