Gordon Thomas "Tom" Blakely September 30, 1939- May 9, 2024
KINGSPORT - Tom Blakely, age 84, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on May 9, 2024. He was born on September 30, 1939, in Mount Carmel, TN. Tom, was a caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He had a servant's heart and a deep love for his family and God. After 64 years of marriage, he was still deeply in love with his wife, Marg.
Tom attended Cedar Grove Elementary and graduated from Ketron High School in 1958. He was a dedicated employee at Eastman Chemical Company for 40 years, working as a Foreman and then he retired from research in Organic Chemicals. He was also a member of the Outdoorsman Club, the Rod and Gun Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, birdwatching, and tending to his rose garden. He was a huge sports fan, and loved to watch the Lady Vols.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Edith Blakely, step-mother Lucille Blakely, and sisters Yvonne Cantrell (Ardy) and Phyllis Foulk (Roy), step-sister Wilma Pyle (Dickie), and Step-brother Charles Anderson.
Tom leaves behind his beloved wife, Margaret Egan Blakely, son Michael Blakely (fiancé', Shelley), daughter Deidra "Dee Dee" Adams (John), sisters Uneva Graves (Gene) and Sandra Roach, grandchildren Tacha, TJ (Brianne), Brittany, Brandon, and Brooke (Ben), as well as great-grandchildren Emily, Bailey, Madilyn, Landon, Bryce, Maverick, Gage, Kashton, and Kinzley and a host of nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Tom's life will be held at Vermont United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4pm to 6pm on Monday, May 13th, with the service following at 6pm. Burial services will take place on Tuesday, May 14th, at 1pm at Oak Hill Cemetery. In case of inclement weather, the gathering will be at the mausoleum. All those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm. Officiating the services will be Rev. Perry Gardner and Rev. Kim Isley-Selby. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
