Harvey Hare McCants, (formerly of Laurinburg, NC), entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 1, 2024, after a lengthy battle with illnesses.
Harvey was born on March 3, 1937, in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Clyde Hare McCants (Ina Mae Smith). Harvey was a 1955 graduate of Bennettsville (SC) High School and a 1959 graduate of The Citadel. Harvey proudly served as a medic in the United States Air Force from 1960 – 1964. While stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona, he met the love of his life, Barbara Howe (Richmond, Indiana). Harvey and Barbara had 58 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
After the United States Air Force, Harvey worked with South Carolina National Bank in Florence, SC. In 1972, Harvey began working with ZV Pate, INC in Laurel Hill, NC as an accountant. He retired from ZV Pate in 2000.
"Mr. Harvey" was known as a true Southern gentleman to all who knew him in greater Scotland County. He had a smile and a friendly wave to anyone that came in contact with him. Family, golf, and The First United Methodist Church in Laurinburg were the joys of Harvey's life.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, Harvey is survived by his daughter, Anna McCants Manley (Chris) of Kingsport, TN; son, Brian Harvey McCants (Lauren) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Madalyn Manley, Charlie McCants, and George McCants.
The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Preston Place II and Amedysis Hospice of Kingsport, TN for all the love and support they showed Mr. Harvey over the past several years.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
