Henry Kilbourne Obituary

GATE CITY, VA - Henry Eugene "Gene" Kilbourne, 86, Gate City, VA passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

Gene was born in Scott County, VA on January 11, 1938, and was the son of the late Edward Charles and Mary Sue McDavid Kilbourne.

He was an employee of Gate City Funeral Home in his later years and has been missed every day.

He was a gregarious fellow who never met a stranger, everyone was a friend he didn't know yet. Gene loved gardening, hunting, camping in the mountains, cooking for those he loved, and embellishing his stories. He laughed often and enjoyed making others laugh, sometimes at their expense. His laughter will be sorely missed, but his sense of humor lives on in his children and grandchildren. His beloved cat Mr. Porter is particularly distraught as he no longer gets homemade chicken soup for his supper.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Kilbourne; daughter, Anita Gene Kilbourne Greer and husband, John; sons, Edward Scott Kilbourne, Brent Alan Kilbourne and wife, Mona; sisters, Shirley Faye Kilbourne Darnell, Dorothy Lois Kilbourne Baker and husband, Mescal; grandchildren, Hannah (Seth) Lewis, Eli Greer, Luke Kilbourne, Nicholas Kilbourne, Ethan Kilbourne, and Thomas Kilbourne; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Kendrick officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his daughter, Anita Kilbourne Greer. Theresa Flanary will provide the music.

Military graveside service will be conducted 11:00a.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA officiated by Rev. Jeff DeBoard. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends are asked to meet at the funeral home Thursday at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

An online guest register is available for the Kilbourne family at www.gatecityfunerals.com.
