Irfane Khatib
It is with profound sadness that the Khatib family shares news of the passing of Dr. Irfane M. Khatib, 80, on April 17, 2023 in Chicago, Illinois.
Irfane was born in Damascus, Syria to Mohammad and Suhayla Khatib. He studied medicine at Damascus University. Irfane married Saousan Kouwatli in 1971. Together, they established a home in Altoona, Wisconsin where they raised four children: Reem; Mohammad; Luma; and Dania. Over his 42-year-long career as an OB-GYN in Eau Claire, Irfane helped usher in many lives in the Chippewa Valley. He was a devout Muslim and became a founding member of the Islamic Society of Northern Wisconsin in 1991. Irfane loved the North Woods and through that, instilled a love of nature in each of his children. In retirement, Irfane was a voracious reader and enjoyed an active life style with Saousan by his side.
There will be no formal memorial service, but friends and family are invited to share happy memories on Irfane's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Syrian American Medical Society's earthquake relief efforts in northwest Syria.

Our family is forever grateful to Dr. Khatib. he worked with us through years of infertility, surgeries, etc. Because of him, we were blessed with a most wonderful daughter, soon to be 35 years old. Also, a 12 year old grandson. We are sorry for your loss. Thankful to have had his support and care.
