James Quillen Obituary

James (Jim) Hueston Quillen

September 26, 2024

With bereaved hearts, we announce that James (Jim) Hueston Quillen, aged 89, transitioned on September 26, 2024.

Jim, a lifelong Kingsport resident, was a dedicated Tennessee football fan, a NASCAR enthusiast, and a skilled golfer. But above all, Jim was known for his spontaneity and passion for life. He was always ready for a road trip, a round of nine holes, a card game, or a meal with friends and family. His love for life was also evident in his service in the U.S. Army, a role he was always proud of. Jim was a dedicated father, grandfather., and great-grandfather. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill and a retiree of Holston Defense Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert T. and Axie (Baker) Quillen, wife, Mary (Sprinkle) Quillen, son, Randy Quillen, and brothers, Charles Quillen and Dennis Quillen. The special persons honoring his memory include his daughter, Amy-Celeste Quillen; grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Johns; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Quillen) Harrison and Lucretia (Quillen) Fletcher; special friend, Mabel Daugherty; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim will be missed, but his memory will live on through his family and friends and the laughter he shared with all who knew him.
