Jay "Carousel Jay" Church June 4, 2024
Jay "Carousel Jay" Church, 88, passed away on June 4, 2024. Born in 1936 in Illinois, Jay spent much of his childhood in Nantucket, where he developed a lifelong passion for sailing and tennis. He attended Colby College, playing hockey and graduating with a degree in art. Jay went on to lead Cordage Paper Co. from 1964 until 1999. Jay loved to travel, exploring many places around the world. He was also a skilled pilot, often flying friends and family to various destinations, creating unforgettable memories along the way.
Jay is survived by his three children from his first marriage, Jennifer, Jay, and Jessica Church, along with their five children and 14 grandchildren. After moving from Illinois to Tennessee, Jay met his late wife, Jennifer Church. Together, they raised two children, Lauren Church and Alex Dayton.
Known affectionately as "Carousel Jay," he touched the lives of many in the community, especially through his involvement with the Kingsport Carousel. His contributions and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Kingsport Farmer's Market from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where friends and loved ones will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life through shared stories.

One of my first memories with my dad was when he built my playhouse and it was right next to a cherry tree in our backyard and I would get to go pick cherries that were very delicious in Dayton Ohio
