Jay Follett Obituary

Jay Curtis Follett

1959 - 2026

Hyde Park, UT - Jay Curtis Follett, age 66, passed away on 18 February 2026 in Hyde Park, Utah.

Jay was born on 14 August 1959 in Logan, Utah, the second of four children born to Richard Frank Follett and Peggy Sue Hamilton. Jay spent most of his childhood in Santa Rosa, California; and he loved the six summers he spent in Yellowstone National Park, where his father served as a Park Ranger Naturalist. Following his father's example, Jay became an avid birder and rarely stepped outside without identifying the birds around him.

While attending Brigham Young University, Jay met his sweet wife, Marie Neville. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 9 March 1984. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at Utah State University in 1988.

Jay worked as an avionics engineer with General Dynamics in Texas and later with Honeywell in Arizona and New Mexico. He had a natural talent for mechanics and engineering and could skillfully restore almost anything to working order.

Jay's greatest joy was his family and he was active in his children's lives. He attended many piano and dance recitals, coached baseball, and served as scoutmaster for all three of his sons. He graduated from, and later led Wood Badge courses, ultimately earning four Wood Badge beads and later received the Silver Beaver Award in 2012.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jay served in the England Manchester Mission from 1978 to 1980 and later fulfilled numerous callings, including bishopric counselor, ward clerk, temple worker, executive secretary, elder's quorum president and family search center consultant.

In 2021, Jay retired to Hyde Park where he cherished being close to family. Retirement allowed him to fully embrace the things he enjoyed: gardening, hiking, birding, and spending time in nature. He often said he felt close to heaven outdoors and spent many peaceful hours on horseback with his Uncle Rick and his dear friend Gary.

Jay showed Christlike service to others in numerous ways including repairing neighbors' vehicles, sharing garden produce, and snowblowing sidewalks and driveways. One of his greatest passions was family history, particularly genetic genealogy. He found deep joy in connecting families, solving ancestral puzzles, and helping others discover their roots. He amassed an astounding 316,042 contributions to familysearch.org during his lifetime.

Jay loved being Grandpa. He cherished visits with his grandchildren and delighted in their laughter, milestones, and everyday moments together.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Peggy Follett. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Neville; his children, Melissa (Chad) Ecalono, Spencer (Paloma Silva do Amaral), Stuart (Claudia Vidal Carvalho), and Christopher (Angela Cortes); and his treasured grandchildren: Logan, Keiran, Grayson, Theodore, Hayden, Soren, Liam, and Corbin. Jay also leaves behind siblings Jackie (Blaine) Brady, Suzanne (Jeff) Cannon and Kenneth (Jane Mele).

There will be a viewing Friday evening from 5-7 pm at Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 East 1800 North.
