KINGSPORT - Jean Coates Blessing, 87, of Kingsport, died Wednesday morning, February 14, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Kingsport where she resided most of her life, Jean was a homemaker and was an active member of Ketron Memorial Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Blessing; parents, Dan and Bea Coates; sisters, Helen Blessing and Joann Neil; brothers, Bobby Coates and Phil "Joker" Coates; granddaughter, Meredith Haga; great-grandson, Danny Bortz; and niece, Paula Coates; and special friend, Sam Forti.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Lisa Jenkins and husband, Donald of Seymour, TN, and Donna Rees and husband, Carlyle of Eden, NC; sons, Tom Blessing of the home, Bruce Blessing and wife, Allyson of Bristol, VA and John Blessing and wife, Kim of Kingsport; grandchildren, Bobby, Chad, David (Bobbi), Brooke, Josh (Hanah), Daniel (Jennifer), Matt (Morgan), Scott (Leah), Logan (Libby), Sarah (Andrew), and Whitney; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Coates and wife, Glenda of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Linda Coates, Betty Coates and Joan Blessing; special friends, Ida Moody and Mary Cloud; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Roy Hull officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
