WISE, VA - John Eli Eyster Sr., 73, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 peacefully at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN after a long illness.
He graduated from J.J. Kelly High School in 1968. After graduation, he went straight to Vietnam in army infantry, he was there for 3 years. After infantry, he enrolled in the University of Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to work for Slumberger, an offshore oil drilling corporation in Louisiana. Later, he attended McNeese College, where he received his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Miller Eyster.
He is survived by two children, John Eli Eyster Jr. "Tonya Eyster" and Courtney Michelle Eyster and her two children, Naseem and Alonna; brother, Phil Eyster "Debbie Eyster"; sister, Mary Eyster Lawson; nephews, Adam V. Eyster, Gary Gene Mullins, II, Russel Coy Mullins and a host of other relatives and friends.
A special thank you to his caregivers, Erica and Russel Mullins, while in their home, had given extra care and attention over the last several months.
