John Lewis Grogg

December 9, 1928 -

August 19, 2025

John Lewis Grogg went home to meet Jesus on August 19th 2025. Born in Kingsport Tennessee he was the 9th of 10 children. In his youth he joined with his two older brothers Andrew and Kenner along with local musicians Doc Rigsby and Junior Ramsey and formed a country band called the boys mountain band. John Lewis played the Dog House base. Later in life he enjoyed playing the banjo.

In the late 1940s he left home to serve his country to the US Marine Corps eventually rising to the rank of Master Sergeant before retirement. While in the Marines he met and married his beloved wife Alice Karabon of Pennsylvania who was serving in the Navy.

John Lewis grogg was preceded in death by his wife Alice of Peoria Arizona parents Samuel and Melissa Grogg of Kingsport Tennessee Brothers Sevier Andrew and Kenner of Kingsport Tennessee and sisters Juanita Callaway of Kingsport Tennessee and Thelma Venable of Gate City Virginia Beulah Haynes of Johnson City Tennessee Olovette Fletcher Kingsport Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by Brother Damos Grogg Johnson City Tennessee and dear friend Mona Hosokawa of Peoria Arizona who took wonderful care of him.
