KINGSPORT - John Allen Hackney, Jr., 83, of Kingsport, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024. John was born in Rye Cove, VA where he grew up. He later graduated from Tusculum College. John retired from Eastman and served as a lay minister. He served as a minister in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving in the Tri-Cities area.
John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; son, John; and daughter, Jeannie.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Kendricks Creek United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Hopkins, Rev. Ray Amos and Rev. Ray Dockery officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery.

Peggy so sorry to hear about John's passing. John was a good man, and our family him so much, as our pastor at the Midway United METHODIST Church., but who wouldn't have loved John. He had the kind of personality that everyone that met him, was his friend. Prayers for your family and loved ones.
