John Selby Obituary
December 30, 2024
KINGSPORT - John Boyd Selby, 83, of Kingsport, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 following a brief illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Vivian Selby; son, Gary Allen Selby, Sr.; and his brothers, James, Gene, and Joe Pat.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Catherine; children, Tony Cox (Carol), Mark Cox (Silvia), Daryl Selby (Kim), Gina Selby Compton (Dannie), James Selby (Namiki). In addition there are fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grands; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
John retired from Sprint as a supervisor after a long career with them and their predecessor company, United Intermountain Telephone System. In retirement, he enjoyed inventing things to make life easier around the home-which was his favorite place to be alongside the love of his life, Catherine. He also loved nature and his pond. He placed cameras to allow them to enjoy the wildlife around their home.
He has been dearly loved and will be dearly missed by many.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kim Isley-Selby and Mr. Mark Selby officiating.
