Julia Kay Benton
March 10, 2025
With broken hearts we share the passing of our beloved mamaw, Julia Kay Benton, known to everyone who loved her as "Lovely." She left this world on Monday, March 10, 2025, but her love, light, and beauty will continue to shine in our hearts.
As a young girl, Lovely gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized in faith, a faith that sustained her throughout her life. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and grace. Anyone that knew her would agree that she was the definition of beauty-not just in her appearance but in her spirit. Her nickname "Lovely" was no accident, she carried that beauty with a gentleness that touched everyone who crossed her path. Lovely found peace in the simple joys. She spent hours in her garden, making apple butter, tending to flowers, sewing or cracking walnuts. Her porch was her sanctuary where she would watch the birds and wait for a visitor to come see her. Those who spent time with her there could always count on being seen, heard, fed, and loved. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother who gave everything for her family. Mamaw was the heart of our family, and her love was boundless. She opened her arms to many nurturing countless children throughout her years caring for them as though they were her own. Each child was a part of her family, and she loved them all. Lovely taught us what it meant to give without expectation to love without condition and to always find joy in the small moments. She never hesitated to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Her life was a living example of what it means to love fully, forgive easily, and to be a light to others. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary woman she was. Strong in her faith, tender in her care, and unwavering in her love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Benton; mother and father, Ira and Clara Sellers; brothers, Elmer Sellers, Ralph Long; sisters, Bonnie Housewright, Mae Sellers, and Joyce Arnold.
