Kathy Yakley Obituary

SULLIVAN GARDENS - Kathy Ann Yakley, 73, of Sullivan Gardens, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Kathy was born in Kingsport and lived her entire life in this area. A graduate of Sullivan High School, class of '68, Kathy was an employee at Mason Dixon until its closing, where she became the company's first female department head. She then went on to have a distinguished 34-year career with the Tri-Cities Airport Authority, where she served as the Director of Human Resources and held that position at the time of her passing. Kathy participated in various community organizations. Throughout her life Kathy had many titles, but her most favorite was LaLa, given to her by her granddaughters.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit "Doc" Dykes and Kathleen Benton Dykes; her husband, Jerry Yakley; and sister, Sharon Lynn Hicks.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Overbey and husband, Phillip; granddaughters, Presley Ann Overbey and Elizabeth Jewell "Buffy" Overbey; sister, Robin Lawson; several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Greg Street officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00am at Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in the Beech Creek Community.
