Ken Colley

May 23, 1943 -

May 17, 2025

KINGSPORT - Ken Colley, 81, Crown Colony, Kingsport, TN passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025.

He was born in Richlands, VA on May 23, 1943, to the late Landon and Dorothy Colley.

Ken graduated from Grundy High School, Clinch Valley College, and Lincoln Memorial University.

At Clinch Valley, he set a record for most points scored (42 points) in a basketball game.

He taught school and coached at Grundy, Haysi, and Copper Basin High Schools.

Ken also worked for many car dealerships: Lincoln Mercury, Bristol, VA; Rosco Bowman Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge Bristol, TN; Don Hill Pontiac, Kingsport, TN; Dennis Powell Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge Johnson City, TN; and Wallace Alley Dodge, Kingsport, TN.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who cherished and adored his family. Ken had a kind heart and never met a stranger. Before Covid, Ken was a regular customer of Hardee's on Stone Drive where he would give out CDs of gospel and country music of songs he liked.

Ken was an avid fan of ETSU basketball, UT football & basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds. He saw Tom Browning pitch a perfect game for the Reds.

Ken loved his community, and you would see him cruising the neighborhood visiting with each neighbor he saw. Some called him the mayor of Crown Colony.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 44 years, Sandra Colley; son, Josh Colley; daughters, Jill Suzanne Marshall (Ken), Kerry Colley, and Zoey Colley; grandchildren, Ben Marshall (Jazmin) and Chris Marshall; great-grandchildren, Elyana and Sareya Marshall; sister, Sue Williams (Rich); special Nieces, Heather Long (Bart) and Shelley Surles (Tracy); special lifetime friends, "The Grundy Boys", John Wayne Shortridge, Mac Stiltner, Larry Sutherland, Jay Rife, James "Bones" Owens, Tom Holland, Dick Mowles and Joe Stephens. They had a true bond and were more like brothers.

Special thanks to the nurses in the Emergency room, Cardiac Care and Wilcox Hall at Holston Valley Medical Center, for their kindness and care they showed to Ken while he was hospitalized and Amedisys Hospice after he went home.

There will be a Private Graveside service for the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Clubhouse in Crown Colony, at 20 Crown Circle, Kingsport, TN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting, www.stjude.org, or a charity of your choice.
