FALL BRANCH - Larry Maney, 82, of Fall Branch, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023 after a long illness at The Wexford House.
A native of Cherokee, North Carolina, Larry was proud of his heritage as a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. His maternal great-grandfather served as Principal Chief in the late 1880's.
Larry attended Berea College in Kentucky. He spent his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority. His work brought him to Hawkins County in the earliest days of the Phipps Bend Nuclear Plant. After the plant was cancelled, Larry worked at many sites in the Tennessee Valley before retiring and settling his family in Fall Branch.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Arnold Maney; daughters, Barbara Sutton, Nancy Arnold, and Becky Miller; sons, Eddie and Danny Maney; ten grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers; Cedric and Marvin; sisters, LaVonda and Darlene.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Tom Edwards officiating. The funeral service will be live streamed at www.hamlettdobson.com. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Cherokee.
