GATE CITY, VA - Linda "Betty" Tipton, age 69 of Gate City, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Betty was the daughter of the late Charlie J. Kerns and Jo Marie Fletcher Kerns. She had previously worked at the Dept. of Social Services in Gate City.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Paul "Cricket" Tipton; granddaughter, Christina Houseright; sister, Maudie "Bren" Cornell; brothers, Charlie "Grub" Kerns, Silas "Buck" Kerns and Carroll Gillenwater; infant brother, Bobby Kerns.
Surviving are her daughters, Tina Houseright Arnold and Melissa "Missy" Thompson and husband Jonathan; grandchildren, Tyler Houseright, Chadwick Ball and husband James Isaac, Santana Houseright, and Brysen Gillenwater; great-grandchildren, Kolton Houseright, Bentley Shelton and Kayden Shelton; sister, Jo "Sis" Skeens and husband Bobby.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow the visitation at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the Midway Community with Rev. Rex McMurray officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Greene, Justin Carroll, Tommy Arnold and Jonathan Thompson
The family would like to extend special thanks to Ballad Hospice, Dr. Rashid Mahboob, and Dr. Ezra Adams.
